Blog - The Village Winemaker COVID 19 Message

Monday, April 6, 2020

Dear Village Winemaker family,

The past few weeks have felt a bit like a bad dream. Truthfully I have been having a hard time dealing with the magnitude of this crisis but have made some positive strides recently. Keeping busy at home and at work helps. I have been doing production for the first time in about 10 years to fill in too.

We have been operating under the guidance of the provincial government exemption guideline below but only in a very limited way.

4. Beer, wine and liquor stores and alcohol producers, and stores that sell beer and wine through arrangements with authorized providers.

The Village Winemaker has always been customer focused and we continue in that regard. Keeping customers and staff safe is our greatest priority.

With all that Liz went through in 2019, it was important that we made the decision to limit her exposure. But in Liz fashion, she stepped up and found a way to help keep things running. Liz has been working remotely, taking your calls, orders and following up on emails. She also comes in to the shop twice per week, on her own, and ensures that her other duties still get done to keep the shop running smoothly.

As for me, I’m working in the shop to make sure that production, and other business continues to move forward, as much as possible.

I’ve been busily racking and filtering your wines. When was the last time you saw me working that siphon?

For the first time, I received a knock at the shop door for a curb side pickup. And yes my wine and vodka consumption has gone up too.

So to reiterate, we are still taking orders and you can come in to bottle on a limited appointment only basis. NO DROP INS. There will only be one bottling station and one customer in the shop at a time.

We have made the decision (only at this extraordinary time) to offer to bottle for customers. We will only do so with new bottles and at no charge for bottling (except for bottles).

We love you guys and we want the best for all of you. I speak not only for myself but for the team here at the shop, we wish you health, safety and happiness. This too shall pass.

For those of you who are making a difference by working an essential service and those making that difference by staying home, I say Thank You!

In times like this, a small business like ours relies heavily on your continued support. I’d like to thank you all of you for that support. I’m touched by your concern and loyalty.

Cheers,
John Seaga
